LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
July 19. The New Zealand Company's Land •Claimants Bill and Surveyors' Institute Bill passed their final stages. The Rohe Potae Investigation Title Bill, Kaiapoi Native Reserve Amendment Bill, and Or ikei Succession Further Investigation Bill were read a second time and referred to tbe Native Affairs Committee, and the Westland and Grey Education Boardß Bills were read a second time.
July 20. The Unclaimed Lands Bill was recommitted, slightly amended and reported. The Oyster Fisheries Bill was committed. Dr Grace objected to the payment of inspectors under the Act, which he thought ehould be done by provision in the Estimates instead of raising bd export duty. He moved that progress be reported, with leave to sit again. This was agreed to by 13 to 11, and after the Weatland and Grey Education Board had passed its final stages.
