July 14 The Waste Lands Committee recommended that the New Zealand Land Claimants Bill and the Unclaimed Land Bill be allowed to proceed,
The Settlers Act was referred to the Statutes Revision Committee.
The Courts of Justice Technical Defecis Removal Bill and the Libel Bill passed their final stages. The Institute of Surveyors Bill was considered iv Committee. July 15.
In reply to Mr Stevens, who asked what wbb the amount of the Lake Forsyth railway account.
Sir P. Buckley said the amount owing to the Public Account on 31st March was £32 830. There was, however, £3383 to be deducted from this amount for Crown lands which bas been sold for cash in contravention of the law, and as soon as this sum could be recovered from the persons who were liable it would be credited to tho account.
The following Bills weie read a first time :—Orekei Succession Investigation Bill, Kaiapoi Native Reserves Bill, Rohe Potae Investigation Bill, Oyster Fisheries Bill, and Westland and Greymouth Education Bonrds Bill. The New Zealand Company's Land Claimants Bifl and the Unclaimed Land Bill were committed. Tbe Institute of Surveyors Bill was reported with amendments.
