OKAIN'S BAY.

The usual monthly meeting of the Committee was held on the sth, all the members preßent, and Mr Robert Gilbert in the choir. The Chairman reported that since hia appointment at the annual meeting be had received a letter from tbe Board of Education in answer to the former Committee's reply to the Board's comments on the late Inspector's report, and as he con* sidered tbe matter urgent, he bad called a special meeting. On learning that one of the members was out of the district, however, be bad adjourned tbe meeting- to tbat evening, so that the matter could be cons sidered at a full meeting, Tbe minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read to Board of Education replying to Board's comments on the Inspector's report. From Board in reply, to effact that, in Board's opinion, a change of master was desirable. From same enclosing vouchers for Balaries for June, £17 Is 9d ; incidentals, £5 14s ; also six copies of Education Act, which were applied for by Committee in order that each member could keep a copy. From Mr Walker, master, enclosing report on attendance for quarter ending June 30th, and asking Committee to re-frost the lower panes of school windows, and furnish a small book case for use in school; also drawing Committee's attention to certain matters in connection with late school examination. It waa agreed that the lower window panes be re-frosted, and a small book case be provided ; also that sis squares of glass be procured for repairs to window. It was also decided that tenders be invited for these works, Tue Board's letter re change of master wbb then considered, and after considerable discussion Mr E. W. Harris moved— 'That the Board be requested to allow the teaching staff to remain as at present until next annual examination, and to make arrangements to bold examination at the end of December next.' Seconded by Mr Wm. Robinson, Mr W. Thacker moved as an amendment—'That tbe master be requested to reßign, the Board to appoint another master.' Seconded by Mr Silas Harris. On a show of hands being taken, the original motion was carried, Messrs Gilbert, Sefton, Robinson and E. W. Harris voting for it, and Messrs Tbacker, Silas Harris and H. Harris for amendment. It was resolved that if tbe Chairman receive any further communication from tbe Board re tbis matter before next meeting, be call a special meeting, Mr Sefton moved—' That an alteration be made in the mode of distributing prizes, bo that no child, except in the preparatory classes, receive a piize or present, except for having passed.' Seconded by Mr Silas Harris and cariied. Messrs Wm. Thacker and H, Harris were appointed truant officers for tbe ensuing quarter. The following tenders were received for three cords firewood :—Robert Hartley, 18s per cord ; T. Ware, 18s per cord. On lots being drawn, the tender fell to Hartley..
