THE ELECTIONS.

Friday was a busy election day in Akaroa, though ol course not like its predecessors, when it used to be tbe principal polling booth. During the day there wero a considerable crowd about, and some 228 voles were recorded, aB against 310 last election. Everyone was very good humoured, and the strongest hopes were expressed of Mr McGregor's return. Strange to say, ifter all the directions we gave, four informal votes were recorded— two insisting in signing their names, and one in voting for two candidates. There were also two informal votes recorded in Le Bon's, but of course these trifles did not effect this election, though they might have others. As the Peninsula returns came in, the confidence of Mr McGregor's supporters increased, and when it was known be had a clear 300, there was mucti jubilation. The Lyttelton return, however, with its crushing block vote of 559 for Mr Joyce, soon came along the wires, and the final result was received almost in silence, the crowd speedily dispersing. At Lyttelton on the poll being declared, Mr Joyce addressed the electors from tho door of the R.M. Court-house, after which be was carried shoulder high through tbe town to his own honse, when he once more addresß D d the electors, saying that as he had acted in the p«st so be would in the future. He also expressed the hope that all private differences would be sunk. Affairs were very quiet throughout the day in port. The following is tbe result of the election :— Akaroa.
