Coop, offering the same at 16a at Barry's Bay. ~'•'■: From Messrs M'Lucas and M'Kay, offier- ■ ing/the earne at 14s 6d at Barry's Bay, or 15s 6d delivered on Daly's wharf. The last offer had been accepted by the Mayor, which action was approved. From Mr C. F. Barker, stating that any delay in completion of the lease of the Ashburton Reserves had been in no sure owing to him. From Mr J. Anderson, stating that the palisading ordered by the Council would be ready for shipment in the course of a fortnight." From the District Auditor, asking for certain information concerning reserves within the Borough. From Messrs Fenton and Wiikins, certifying that the bridge at Mr Meech's had been completed in a satisfactory manner. From the Treasury, asking for certain returns as to rates, &c, required by the Financial Arrangements Act. From the Deputy Land Tax Commissioner, asking that the Council- would allow the valuation roll to be deposited in the Council offices for public inspection. From the W. M. of the. Masonic Lodge, Akaroa, calling the Council's attention to the dangerous nature of a gorse hedge near the Masonic Hall. From the City Council, Christchurch (telegram), asking the Council's co-opera-tion re holding the next session of Parliament in Christchurch. From Mr J. F. Roberts, re an account of Mr A. I. M'Gregor for clerical assistance which he (Mr Roberts) had been asked to report on. From the same, calling attention to the fact that he had done certain engineering work for the Council, and suggesting a meeting with the Works Committee Avith a view to a settlement. The Clerk was instructed lo supply the information asked for by the District Auditor. meech's bridge. With regard to the completion of this bridge, Cr Bridge called attention to the metalling, and nsked whether it had been included in the specifications that the contractor should do this metalling in a proper manuer. If the contractor was not bound to do it, the Council would have to do it. Cr Penlington read the clause in the specification bearing on the question. M. of the Masonic Lodge, it was resolved that the Clerk be instructed to give notice to the owner or occupier of the section in question to comply with the provisions jof the by-laws in that respect. MEMORIAL. A petition was presented from several residents in the neighborhood of Hahn's | bridge, asking the Council to provide them with some means of access to the creek, to which they were now debarred access since the erection of this bridge. The Mayor thought the Council should place a pump on the bridge, as they were debarred from getting at thq creek. Cr Cullen, Bridge, and Penlington strongly opposed the idea of a pump. Edmondson to clean the Bide channells for £12, and had also arranged for the construction of the footpaths in' Upper Jollie street at a reduction of £2 on the contract price. Cr Penlington considered that as they had just paid for clerical assistance to Mr Eoberts during the time he was superintending these works, they should not entertain this claim. ' | ':' : The Mayor concurred in this view. Cr Henning"would be in favor of paying something, and would like to see it left in the hands of the Works Committoe. " I Cr Bridge urged that the Council should remember that they, provided Mr Roberts with clerical assistance to enable him to do this other work. ■■■, '.-, . i ; Crs Meech and Biilens thought Mr Eoberts should be paid for his professional services, deducting the amount which had been paid for clerical assistance. Cr Cullen took a similar view. : , • Cr Penlington moved—" That Mr Eoberts be written to, asking him to put in a claim, taking into consideration the clerical assistance granted him by the ried. Tenders, formation of balguerie street. C. Burns, ten weeks, £200. Sigley and Dixon, two months, £337. Cr Penlington reminded the Council that their present liabilities were about £450. Cr Meech proposed that the .consideration of the lenders be deferred till next meeting.—-Carried. The Council then adjourned.
