PIGEON BAY ROAD BOARD.

August 4th, 1877. Present—Messrs Gillespie, (Chairman) ' Hay, Pitcaithly, McKay, and Budua. . CORRESPONDENCE. * ** From the Government printer, informing the Board, that all advertisements for the New Zealand Gazette, will in future require to be prepaid. ' From Secretary to Treasury, Wellington, stating that £905 5s lid, had been remitted to the fund account of the Board being their share of the fund accrued to the County of Akaroa. From Mr. Montgomery, in reference to the Pigeon Bay, and Port Levy road, stating that the matter had been laid before the Colonial Treasurer, and that a favourable reply might be expected. From Mr. Latter, expressing his willingness to aid the Pigeon Bay and Port Levy Boards as much as lay in his power, but that it will be absolutely necessary to apply to the authorities at Wellington, for the £1000 grant. From Mr. W. Jameson, stating that the matter re surveys, Pigeon Bay and .Port Levy road, lias been referred to the Government. From the agent, Bank of New Zealand, Lyttelton, informing the Board that £905 5s lid had been placed to their credit. «, From Mr. Ashwin, expressing his willingness, to form half the road from his property to the beach, at his own cost. The Clerk was instructed to inform him that the whole of the work would have fo be tendered for, and in that case, if his tender was not accepted, would he pay half the amount of tender. From Miss Marshall and others, asking if Board would form road through Mr. Pitcaithly's section. The Clerk was instructed to inform them that, on account of the survey being disputed, the matter must rest in abeyance till the surveyor arrived. The Clerk stated, that in reference to the proposed road to Hay's gully, the plans and specifications had Jain in the office 40 days, and had been advertised twice in the daily papers, according to the Highway Boards Empowering Act. The Board agreed that i*; would be advisable to appoint a solicitor to the Board, and ask his advice as to how to proceed further in tbe matter. Upon Mr. Hay's proposition, it was agreed that the Clerk should write to Mr. Joynt, giving him full particulars of wht* has been done, and asking him to advise the Board further. Proposed by Mr. Pitcaithly, and seconded by Mr. McKay that the Clerk write ty Mr. Budua,. asking the price of two sections, required for diversion of road ; Ist, by Mr. McCloy's hill • 2nd, foot of new road. Proposed by Mr. Pitcaithly, that a new map, one of the largest size, be procured for the office. It was agreed that the Chairman should request Messrs Everill and Gunning not to take metal less than a chain from the road. Resolved that tenders should be advertised for, for breaking 500 iyards of metal, for the continuation of the new road, Pigeon Bay side, to be sent in by the 18th instant, also, for forming road 10ft wide, and 80 chains long, more or less, from beach to Mr. Ashwins, Decanter Bay, the same to be received at the next monthly meeting. The Clerk was instructed to post up notices, stating that if persons did not keep their cattle off the main road, the matter would be put in the hands of the police. Also, to write to Messrs Gillespie, McCloy, W. Cross, and the Misses Marshall, informing them that they must clear the gorse from roads opposite their sections, in accordance with the Public Works Act. It was resolved that the Board should meet in a fortnight.
