HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Vincent Hospital Board was held in the County Offices, Clyde, on Wednesday, 2ist July. The following members being present: Messrs S- A. Stevens (chair), J. Mc Knight, \V. Bringans, J. Swann, C.J. Spain, R. E. F. Butcher and G. Wishart. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs D. S. Middleton and G. T. Alexander. The Acting Director-General of Health wrote advising that by an amendment to the Declaration of Essential Undertakings No. 6 all employees of Hospital Boards are brought within the Declaration of Essentiality. The Otago Hospital Board notified the admission of 4 Vincent District patients to Dunedin Hospital during the past month. 2 Vincent patients had been discharged during the month. A Vincent resident had also been admitted to the Talboys Home. The Matron of the Dunstan Hospital reported that for the month of June 24a patients were admitted and 15 discharged, 22 remained at the end of the month. Donations received: —112 young Jiedge trees from the Chairman and 2 cords of firewood from Mr C. J. Spain. Mr L. Vercoe's quote of £4B/18 for a new Iron Shed and brick rubbish Destructor was accepted, and the fitting of two doors at the openings on the Women's Balcony was agreed to. It was also decided to purchase 6 loads of metal chips for the Hospital drive. The Matron, Cromwell Hospital, reported that for the month of June, 17 patients were admitted, 19 discharged and 19 remained at the end of the month. Misses- I*. A. Roberts and M- A. Turnbull had joined the staff during the month, and Misses M. Ritchie and Lawrence were relieving staff on annual holidays. It was decided to hold over the interior painting at Cromwell Hospital 'until the Spring. The drainage at this hospital was again giving trouble It was agreed that frequent renewals of soak pits had proved very costly an 1 it was decided to get some information about the possibility of a sewer to the River. Mr Peterson, of Cromwell, had kindly offered his services'in connection with the planting of trees at the Hospital, and it was agreed to see Mr Peterson at Cromwell next month. Two most acceptable donations to the Cromwell Hospital Radio Fund had been received during the month. —A former Cromwell resident, Mr R. McLMatheson, who had been killed in action in the Middle East, had asked that his deferred pay £25/18, be handed over to the Hospital, and this sum was now received with grateful thanks. Mr John Colling, of Tarras, had also very kindly donated the sum of £5Owing, to the increase from (3/to 9/- per day the Social Security payment for In-patient treatment from Ist April, the Health Dept. had requested that Hospital Boards Estimates be amended to provide for tlie increase in Patients' Fees. By this amendment the Levy on the Local Authorities in the Yincent District had been reduced from £5175 to £4255, a reduction of £920. By the amending of the Estimates tne Subsidy payable by the Government could be reduced from £5340/10/5 to £3960/10/5, a sum of £I3BO.
