AIR TRAINING CORPS
"The Air Training Corps is part of the Empire Training Scheme", • said Flight Lieut. Gillies to-day. New Zealand of course, has its own Air Training Corps, which has units in all centres of population. "I am sure there will be a sufficient number of young men between the ages of 1G and 20 years in the Central Otago districts who will wish to join the local iSmits wniali are now being organised. Serppewith the Air Training Corps is involuntary and parents' permission to join is necessary. No service obligations to join the R.NZ-A.F. later are entailed, a:; a new fresh application has to be made for full time service in the R.N.Z.A.F. The training consists of Service and Educational instruction and normally Ihcre are two parades a week. The syllabus is designedt to gve fundamental instruction on a wide range of interesting subjects, which will qualify him for responsibility and interesting careers with the Air Force —or Army Armed Force—and develop his opportunities as a civilian even if he does not join in the future any of the armed services. The response to the idea of Air Training Corps units with Central Otago has been excellent, and it would appear that several successful Units will be established. At present the Mayor (Mr McKellar), Mr J. R. McKissock and Mr Blyth, of Alexandra; Dr Austin, of Cromwell; Mr Naylor and Mr Deaker, OmaItau; and Mr Taylor and Mr W. K. George, of Clyde, are acting in the capacity of an advisory committee." The Home Guard are acting in liaison. Enrolment cards can be obtained from Zone 118 HQ. Alexandra.
