SKATING.

EXCELLENT CONDITIONS STILL PREVAIL. The conditions for skating last weekend were excellent. Though Sunday was pleasantly mild, the ice was holding well and about 400 skaters were to be seen at the Manorburn dani. This number included many visitors from Roxburgh, Cromwell and Clyde." On Saturday the Club were favoured by a visit from Mrs Herbert and Mr Jim Becker, who won the ladies' and men's fancy skate at Oturehua. They were good enough to give an exhibition of both figure skating and waltzing. Mr Gus Magnus, who is an expert at figure skating, has been very helpful in teaching a number of the Skating Club, and, due to his interest, many young skaters are becoming proficient in the finer points. It becomes more apparent that the neighbourhood of Alexandra has a splendid asset in this dam which, with its shady reaches, even in milder weather, gives unrivalled opportunities for continuous skating on so large an area. Probably no sheet of water could be found to equal it for this purpose.- ' The Sports Club are extremely grateful to Mr W. Noble for providing the best access to cars. The.Club desires that every 'effort should be made to comply with his reasonable. wishes in respect of keeping to the track provided and also to see that the last car to leave attends to the closing of the gates Congratulations to Miss Margaret Bevis, of the Alexandra Club, who won the ladies' championship at Oturehua last week. She is a graceful skater and an education to watch. The Club are hopeful, provided the present conditions continue, of holding another carnival on Saturday afternoon. Notices will be posted on the boards.

The Secretary will be grateful if members will join up and pay their subscriptions to him or any member of the- Committee. The Club hopes to be in a positon to erect a pavilion next year for the use of its members*
