ROXBURGH NOTES.

Beautiful autumn weather is being i experienced, though of course it is much too dry. Owing to "the ground being too' hard the opening of the football season which was fixed for Saturday last was cancelled and unless rain conies soon further matches must be deferred. Hockey Match. A team from Weddcrburn came to Roxburgh on Saturday and played Roxburgh East, the latter winning by 4 goals tu 2. In the evening the, visitors were the guests of the local players at the pictures and later at a short dance. Anzac Celebrations.

These took place at 11 o'clock on Friday morning. Headed by the band a procession marched to the Soldiers' Memorial where wreaths were placed and a brief address to the school children was delivered by the head master, Mr M'Kenzie. The procession then returned to the hall where a cbini biued service was held. The chair was i occupied by the Rcv> Mr Graham. Addresses weTe given by the Mayor and Revs. G. Peterson and Wilson, a combined choir under Mr J. B. Gilmour rendering appropriate music. The collection amounted to £7 15s. After the service the returned men held a meeting and elected a committee to watch the interests of the returned soldiers in the district. These number 60.. Easter Monday Social.

This annual'gathering hold, under the auspices of _tho B. C, congregation was the usual huge success. There was a •Very large attendance of the., public and the evening proved most enjoyable. Progressive euchre/occupied the early part of the night and this was followed by a dance to excellent music supplied by Miss Gordon (piano), Messrs Gordon (cornet) and Crbssjih (violin). Municipal Band.

The members of the band supplied the music at the Beaumont races on Easter Monday and resplendent in their smart uniforms they created a very favourable impression, the music being of a very high order. On the following day Mr E..S. Black, Mayor of Dunedin. who was at the races, telegraphed the president of the band congratulating it on its fine appearance and performance. .
