FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. A GRADE. Wanaka to Matakanui (Mr J. Burton). Cromwell to Alexandra (Dr Brokenshire). B GRADE. Alexandra to Galloway. Poolburn to Clyde (Mr W. Waddell.) Moa Creek to Lowburu (Mr Gox), Cup match. Cromwell to Matakanui, 1.30 (Mr Duggan). The Alexandra A team selected for the match against Cromwell will be the same as last Saturday. It is the wish of the officials that the local team arrive on the field up to time as it is a very discourteous ■ thing to keep a visiting team waiting. The following team will represent Galloway against Alexandra, at Galloway on Saturday:—Grenfell Rattray, Tohill, Bradley, L. Jackson, W. Jackson, C. Theyers, Ashworth, S. Jackson, Pelvin, Cummoek Bros., E. Love, Bell, Brown, Symons, M'Kellar. The game will commence at 1.45 p.m. Alexandra v. Wanaka. Only one match was played on Saturday. Alexandra A journeyed to Wanaka where they met and defeated the local side by 12 points to 3. The visitors were at full streugtlu ■ The Greens were represented by:— Backs —Hesson, Ryan, Curtis, Hannay, Campbell, Munro, Beilby. Forwards— Carline, Duncan, Cummoek, J. Noble, Keddell, Marslin, Lawry and Qui mi. Wanaka kicked off against the sun, Both teams were fairly evenly matched throughout the whole game especially in the first half which ended with no score. The game stated off at a rattling pace, play going from one end of the field to the other. A series of scrums took place about mid-field. The Greens were getting a fair share of the ball from these, but it was on very rare occasions that it went out to Hannay. From a scrum Quinn broke away with the ball at his toe and transferred play to the Wanaka line, Willets, the Wanaka full-back, clearing. The home forwards showed up better than the Green forwards at this stage. The Alexandra backs were superior to the opposition and kept the Wanaka forwards at bay. Just before halftime the Green forwards broke away, but a likely chance was spoiled by one of the' players foolishly kicking the ball too hard. Halftime souuded with no score.

No sooner had the second half commenced than the Green forwards began to dominate the game. In the scrums they were hooking the ball and in the lineouts they were giving the backs many opportunities. Play had been in progress about 10 minutes when a Black and White forward was penalised for off-side play and Hannay kicked a goal. This reverse livened up the* Wanaka players who rushed the game to the Green line. Wanaka were here awarded a penalty for off-side play and Willets made no mistake with the kick —3 all. The Greens met this reverse with a persistent attack and the ball was being thrown about freely by the backs who were now combining better. A free-kick to Greens saw Hannay land another goal, this time from halfway. Alexandra 6, Wanaka 3. Soon after Hannay kicked another goal, making the score 9-3. The visitors were dominating the game. From a passing rush Campbell went over to score the only try of the match. Hannay from the side Hue made a good but unsuccessful attempt to convert. The game ended shortly after, the final score being:— Alexandra 12 Wanaka 3 Mr P. Partridge ably controlled the. game. The Greeus played their best game of the season. The forwards improved wonderfully in the second half and fed the backs very well. With a set of backs such as the Greens now have it is good policy to open up the game. The game was marred by too much talking. One Wanaka player was ordered off by the referee in the second half but was allowed to remain through Marslin appealing for him. Hannay's kicking was good, being responsible for nine points. Campbell, Beilby and Curtis all played a solid game for the Greens. Quinn and Lawry were the pick of the Greens forwards. Willets was a tower of strength for Wanaka. One or two of the referee's decisions were questioned and he appeared to get a little rattled. A mark awarded B. Campbell was considered by most onlookers not a mark, the result being—a pause—in the game.
