At the Council meeting on-Monday night Cr H. Munro referred to the chopping down of trees in the borough. A popla? tree, some six incfies in diameter had been chopped down onthe outskirts of t,he borough by some irresponsible .person. The Council's views ou the matter were very strongly voiced and woe betide any person who violates the regulation regarding trees in the borough. It is a criminal offence to destroy those works of Nature which shelter and shade and ■ add' to the attractiveness of the town. . ' - During'Mr W. full's recent visit to Wellington he was successful iii procuring the film taken by the Government -photographer some time ago. This picture entitled "Down South" is taken in Alexandra and 'surrounding districts and lias been produced as a New -Zealand Scenic. Mr Kennedy Black takes the part of the American Millionaire, Mr George Hesson as James the chauffeur and Mr H. Hull is seen for the first time on the screen. It should be of interest to the people of Alexandra and surrounding districts to know that this film is being shown all over New Zealand and is a splen-,. did advertisement for the district. M*.
