FOOTBALL.

At the invitation of the Moa Creek " sports " the local B team travelled there on Saturday and played a friendly game. For the second half sides were picked from the combined teams and some good practice resulted. The teams were afterwards the guests of Mr Tilbury, who entertained them to dinner. A challenge for the White Horse Cup has been received from the Tarras team. The game will take place on Saturday on the local ground. We understand that Millers Flat are also bent on securing this trophy and that a challenge is forthcoming. Western Districts have sent along a challenge for the Topp Cup. This will probably be played on September 25th, and the local ground holds some claims as the site of the contest, as few matches have been staged here this_year. The following team will defend " The White Horse Cup" against Tarras on the local ground on Saturday 28th inst: — ' K Campbell; J. Hannay, E. Booth S. Mcintosh ; W. Campbell, L. G. Townsend ; S. Tohill.. Forwards — W. Noble, L. Carline, J. Noble, C. Rivers. S. Carline, J. Dougherty, S. Wragge, A. Marslin.

Vincent team which met Tuapeka at Boxburgh on Saturday was defeated by 6 to 3. Unfortunately many of the - star players were unable to travel owing to illness, and although the team was weakened by notable absentees such as Townsend, Marslin, Schieb and Sanders, it gave a good account of itself. It was a good day for football but the ground was heavy and greasy from recent rain. Tuapeka's win was largely due to their big dashing forwards who were not hindered by the adverse conditions of the ground. The teams were as follows :

Vincent —R. Campbell (capt.) ; Hannay, Hayes, Clarkson ; Woodhouse, W. Campbell; Sutherland ; Carline, W. Noble, Kirkwood, N. Campbell, J. Noble, Thomson, Gawn, McArthui. Tuapeka —Michelle : Manuel, -J. M'Donald, M'Pherson ; Pannet, Eckhoff; Toms ; Jones, G. M'Donald, Morrin, Gilkison, M'Callum, M'Laughlan, Parker. Tull. The home team was the first to score, M'Laughlan getting over from loose play in Vincent's twenty-five. The Tuapeka forwards were getting the ball from the scrum, but it seldom went past Eckhoff. Hayes stopped a dangerous forward rush, and found touch with an excellent kick. Hannay then improved matters for Vincent by a long kick to the home 2 5. Clarkson centred < and J. Noble following up scored a good try. Hannay missed the kick. Tuapeka 3, Vincent 3.

Tuapeka attacked strongly with a forward rush headed by Gilkison and McLaughlan which was well stopped by Sutherland. Carline got away from loose play in the home team's 25 and just missed scoring, after an exchange of kicks which ended in Greens favour.

On resuming after half-time, Greeus made .a fine rush, and shortly after Hannay was unfortunate in not securing a try, a knockon within a yard of the line spoiling a great individual effort on his part. The home team set up a hot attack and carried play to Greens line, where two infringements gave them penalties in favourable positions, which however were not converted. Continuing to press, the home team was at last rewarded by Toms diving over shortly before time went. Tuapeka 6, Vincent 3- ' Mr T. Waite was referee.
