THE HERALD. WEDNESDAY, MAY 13, 1925 DEATH OF MR MASSEY.

It is with deep regret that we record the death of Mr William Ferguson Massey, Prima Minister of New Zealand, in his seventieth year. Ii bee ime manifest after tbo operation was performed tint Mr Mas'sey's health was a matter of grave concern, and the Official Bulletin issued towards the end of last week contained a note of grave anxiety regarding the critical condition of the Prime Minister's health, and the whole community was aware that the last great crisis was at hand, and so that ollieial notification of his demise could hardly be siid to come 'with startling suddenness. Nevertheless the nil! cting intelligence has aroused the sympathy of the whole country, and one and all will grieve that the national head of the Government has answered the call of the recording angle. As Mr Massey's Constituency is situated in the far North; it is but reasonable that his general activities should be more in that domain so that country men in this portion of the Dominion came less in personal touch with "him thin our more fortunate Northerner?, although bis paginations frequently brought him S mtb. However, that Mr Massey endeared himself to the whole community there can be no doubt as witnessed by the manifold tributes paid by Coljeagues, opporj: ents and citizens from one end of New Zealand to the other they are all raagnanirnousfiin their lamentations and .regret of departed merit. So closes the illustrious career of a great statesman and loyal patriot.'
