THE HERALD. WEDNESDAY, JAN. 28, 1925.

We understand that Mr H. Hesson has disposed of bis motor garage business. The new proprietors are to Uke it over at the beginning of the month. ' f ... H That the Roxburgh district is experiencing a bumper fruit harvest this season is seen when the despatch for one day last week totalled 131 tons. This represents some picking - and packing. Considerable interest was shown in the Power Board Election at Cromwell last Wednesday ; 121 electors recorded their rotes. As was expected the Mayor (Mr D.-C. Jolly) headed the poll with 94, BeT. W. P. Bankin 76 and Cr Sanders 60. Two members were required. The Board now consists of nine members.

There was a fair coating of snow on the IMWhBBp and the consequent decrease in the temperature was most noticeable after the hot days previously. The Kawarau Goldmiinng Company has received cabled advice from England to the effect that five of the ten gates will be ready at the works on February 14th, and the other five on February 24th, whilst the gearing will be ready shortly afterwards. It will be remembered that the company was disappointed a week or two ago by the information that the built-in parts bad hot been shipped as prepared, but were all coming out together, this meaning delay in the concrete work at frankton Falls. The news now to hand about the gates is gratifying, in that it shows that the final shipment of gates will be well up to contract time ; therefore the delay in the work as a whole will not be to great as was anticipated.

la this iwue the Power Board notify their intention to ask authority from the ratepayers of the part lately added to this district (Cromwell and district, Fraitiandt and Galloway, etc.,) to borrow £25,000. We understand it is not the Board's intention to actually borrow this sunt immediately, but just such ,a sum u. will suffice for this work that is to be undertaken in the immediate future. The object of getting authority for the larger sum is that future extensions can be carried out when' justified without the preliminary expense entailed in getting an authority to raise a loan.' The participation in the poll which shall be advertised later mil be confined to ratepayers of the area for which the loan is required.
