THE GROCER'S CART.
Wlieu tke riiiu Jias left the valley, :■ And-the dusty day is done ; And the smoke-wreaths cii'cle, gently From our homesteads, one by one : There's a sound that' breaks the stillness
From all other sounds apart, "Tis the ueariug, cheering, runibh Of the good old grocer's cart.
And the jingle of the harness Is like music, soft and clear, And the cadence of the hoof beatsHolds a message full of cheer ; And we watch him take the turning In the gateway, neat and smart, And we welcome in the grocer, And tlic good old grocer's cart.
Then the grocer's asking questions While die's thinking out replies, And his right band's making entries While his left is selling pies For a juggler isn't in it . this man of wondrous art, And it's like a shop in motion Is the trusty grocer's cart.
And the storm may rage its fiercest,
•And the train may leave the rails, And the ships may seek the bottom But the grocer never fails. And the toilers as they watch him. On his homeward journey start, Pass a vote of thanks —in silence To the grocer and his cart. G. Dbwab, Chatto Creek
