SCHOOL CONCERT.

A large audience was present on Tuesday evening, 9th hist in the local 'fW.ii flail on the occasiou of the | concert given by tbe pupils ol the District Hish School. Tlie first part of the programme consisted of items rendered by the children, and the second part of pictures kindly screened by Mr 11. Hull. Tho children's items were most successful, the audience oujoyiug them and insisting on eucores on several 'occasions. The programme opened with a churns by the senior pupils. Then followed an item by the infant*—Nursery Rhymes—several ot the little ones being iu character costume representing well-known nursery rhyme-. This item proved a favourite mid had t\> be repeated. I'd. dumbell drill by tho boys and wand drili by the girls were both done very smartly : gold lime was kepi", all knew and followed closely tbe various different exercises with promptness and precision, reflecting credit to the instructor and those instructed.. The childreu's part of the programme finished up with a humourous dialogue tided "It-jading the Albxaxmu HebAi.i> " —iu which Misses A. FraUsf and E. Percy and Master W. Campbell took part. The three did their parts well, and gave the audience a deal of fun. The second part of the programme was a screening of pictures which were enjoyed by young aud old, a Charlie Chaplain being included in the programme to the delight of the youugsters. Mr G. Campbell, chairman of Ibu school committee, thanked the audience for their patronage aud Announced that the proceeds which were on behalf of school priz :s would amount to about £25. He complimented Miss Bodkin, the school mistress on the merit aud success of the concert given that night, which must have involved considerable work with the children. Accompanist for the concert was Miss Weaver, aud Miss Gladstone kindly gave her services at the piano while the pictures were being screened. A suecessful dance followed, the music for which was supplied by Miss Grant aud Mr .1. Hariey. Mr -G. Uannay acted as doorkeeper.
