RUPTURE.
" Among tho habits of excessive toil to which the human family is.subject, that which tho farm labourer has auuualy to face, viz., the' tossing of sheaves to great heights in the loading of waggons', etc., is perhaps the one which causes more eases of serious rupturo thau any other mode of employment. Though we mentiou this .as it prominent cause of ru; ture, it must not be overlooked that all violent muscular effoits to pre cure the necessaries, comforts and conveniences of hfe, together with the hereditary weakness under which our race labours, through a long line of ancestral trau>gres;nouß, hare developed a physical imperfection, both distressing and dangerous, styled hernia or rupture In a race phy-ically strong wo do believe, it could not, exist." Nor do wo believe, even in tho present typo of feeble and depleted mauhood and wemanhtod, it could exist if a proper system of physical training wore carried out through childhood till the body was well knit or consolidated, so as to ex • elude all idea of weakneas or wair of strength. Such habits which soui d physiological instruction to our teas and daughters would produce, can alone banish this physical curse from our race, and substitute a better, purer and higher standard of physical perfection, We really think that sufferers from hernia living in the country should give this matter their earnest attention, and even though it may occasion, their taking a day or two off for the purpose, it would be well worth, their while, to do so for the sake of getting scientific treat-men 1 . Hundreds of persons of both sexes who have adopted this policy have left testimonials expressing their gratification at the result. Mr A. W. Martin, Sole Controller of .the Dr.J. A.
