LAUDER NOTES.

The weather.—October here was a rery dry, windy month ; ia fact it is raanv years since we have experienced such hard constant winds. Paddocks that were ploughed soon yet too hard to work, and turnip paddocks were just getting hard enough to plough. It wus the uuanimous opinion ot all interested that on Sunday morning, rind ult., it started to rain quietly, and kept on till about 3 in the afternoon, when it turned to snow. The flats were eovered with about tfin of snow, and n-j doubt there would be a greater quantity on the hills. It was pretty rough on stock while it lasted, but it is disappearing very rapidly and no doubt it will do a lot of good. Tennis.—The ortieird opening ot the Lauder Tennis Club took place on the courts on Saturday. Ist inst. r and although the weather was not pafect, being a bit gusty, there was a good crowd present, several neighbouring clubs being well represented. Some very elo->a an I enjoyable games were played. Although only a young club, it was very evident that some very good material is in the club, and with a little practise will give a good account ot" themselves among older clubs. A very enjoyable dance was bsld in tho school in the evening. Obituary.—Quite a gloom was east over the district when it became known that Miss Lucy Moran. s*-conl daughter of Mrs. .Worm, tanner, Lauder, and the la'e Daniel Moran, had passed away on Wednesday, 29th ult., in she Duastan Hospital. It was only a few days previously that •he complained of internal pains. Me was taken to the Hospital where yjg operation was deemed necessary. Sue- never regained consciousness after the operation, although she liad the »i«st attention procurable— Dm'. S. lfeiehelur, TurubuH and Shore; being in attendance. The funeral look place on Friday in the Diybread Cemetery, when a large crowd of friends and sympathisers attended to pay their last tribute of resp'jet to uoe, l*ho during hw lifetime, by her loveable, kindly thoughtful actions, h*d endaared herself to all who had *tho pleasure and privilege of knowing her. The heartfelt sympathy of all the district go out to the bereaved mother, brothers, and sister in their Jrreparable loss.
