DOING GREAT WORK

Nurse Chappell, as her many friends in Alexandra anticipated, is making a name for herself, and getting a splendid hearing wherever she goes. She has had a most strenuous time in and around Christchureh, having given 65 lectures in seven weeks, besides attending three conferences, one a teacher's conference, the other two social hygiene conferences. The places visited included Wainiate, Timaru, Ashburton, Oxford, Kaipaia, Kaikaia, Lyttleton and Heathcote. The meetings addressed cover a wide range for variety from Church Deaconess, Nurses, St. John's Ambulance, Workers Educational Association, and Star of the East Society, hardly any society but has been pleased to hear what the Nurse had to say. She has even penetrated into the prisons and given her lectures there after special permission from "Wellington had been obtained, and at one place the inmates farewelling her sang to the amazement of the officials '* For she's a j°Hy good fellow " In fact, the list of meetings addressed would take about a column to enumerate. Her fame has travelled to America, for in a recent number of the journal published by the International Purity Association of Chicago is the following notice : " Number 148 issue of the Purity Journal will print a very remarkable and striking article entitled ' Red Blood of the Nation.' Those who have bad the privilege of reading the original con- * sider it one of the most vital and valuable contributions to literature upon the subject of the mother, child and home as related to individual rights, human advancement, and Christian progress, as well as National greatness. The talented author. Miss Chappell is a practical Christian at the Plunket School, Central Otago, Australia."
