CARNEGIE LIBRARY.

The following are the rules and regulations drawn up in connection with the Carnegie Library, which were read and adopted at last week's meeting of the Council:— No person shall take any magazine, newspaper, or book from Reference Library outside of reading room. No child under the age of 14 years shall be allowed to enter or remain in Library unless accompanied by parent, guirdian or person in charge. No person shall create any disturbance in the library. No food or refreshments shall be partaken of in the library. No person who is iu a state of intoxication or is uncleanly in person or dress, or who is suffering from any infectious or offensive disease shall enter the library. No person shall write in of upon any hook belonging to the library ; or shall" mark, soil, damage, mutilate or deface such book : and if a book be written in or otherwise damaged the person in whose hand the book was at the time may be required to pay the value of the book or replace it at the discretion of tho council. No person shall bring any auimal or bicycle within the library grounds. No person shall smoke or expectorate within the library. The librarian may exclude or remove from the library any idle or disorderly person, or any person who is not using it for its proper use, or who, iu the opinion of the librarian, has been guilty of a breach of any of the foregoing provisions in respect to the library. Any person offending against any of the foregoing rules shall be excluded from the ase of the library for such period as the council may determiue. The reading room shall be open to the public on week days throughout the year, except on such public holidays and other days as the council may from time to time determine between the hours of 10 a.m. and 9 p.m , * aud on Sundays from 2 p.m. until ■"> p.m.; aud no person shall enter or remain in the library except when it is open to the public as aforesaid. The library or lending department shall be open ou Wednesdays and Saturday-, except on public holidays, between the hours of 7.:k> p.m. aud 8.30 p.m. oa Wednesdays, and from 7.30 p.m. to '.• p.m. on Saturdays, or such other days and hours as the council may from time to time determine.
