Mr aud Mrs L. Richardson, c f Baltimore, have been searching into the ancestory of Miss Katherine Eikius, whose engagement to the Duke of Abruzzi was the gossip of two continents. They declare that they have discovered that Miss Elkins is descended from King Charlemagne. Conal, the most ferocious lion in the Highland Park Zoo, Pittsburg, made friends with a three-year-old girl named Lena Meik when she thrust her arm into the cage, and licked the child's hand, while women fainted and keepers stood stupefied. Specimens of a hitherto unknown fly from New Guinea, with the eyes on the end of horns three quarters of an inch long, have been received at the Natural History Museum, South Kensington.
