Land League.

About 20 members attended a special ! meeting of the Land League at Alexani dra on Friday evening last, delegates being present from Clyde and Earnscleugli i. branches. Mr C. Weaver (president of the Alexandra branch) was in the chair, aud suggested the formation of a central body from the different leagues. He advocated the appointment of six delegates from each league in order to ensure i the leagues being all represented at the different meetings. The Land Board ' had visited the pastoral runs in this : district and made certain reeommendaj tions. The business people must be | interested in the movement, and he i regretted thai they did not come forward j aud render whatever assistance they could. In the appointment of delegates lie considered that persons desirous of settling on the land would make the best delegates, as they would have a | practical knowledge of the runs aud the , best method of subdivision. The Board was to meet in December Lo consider the advisability of resuming the Moulcre | block, comprising 6500 acres, for closer ! settlement purposes. Galloway had been visited by the Board and the block required for fruit culture pointed out to j them. En connection with Earnscleugli J there were about 200 acres in the Leaning | Hock block suitable for fruit settlements, I but the Earnscleugli League was asking i that the south block of 39,214 acres bo j resumed and for that purpose it was ! suggested to send in a petition in support I of the application. A large portion of ' Mount Benger run was in this district, aud this should also receive consideration. The Board had supplied maps and asked that these be marked in accordance with the views of the leagues as to the best method of subdivision, lie thought the best plan would be to proceed with the formation of the central body. When that was formed the different branch leagues could forward their recommendations to the controlling league, and these could then go forward from the central body, which would be better than coming from each branch. Mr Bodkin favored the chairman's suggestion, and moved that a governing body, comprising six delegates from each league, be formed.—Seconded by Mr Jas. Carroll aud carried, an amendment for seven being defeated. Nine nominations were received for the representation of the Alexandra branch on the central bo ly. After much discussion and unnecessary delay, j followed by a . ballot, the following j delegates were declared elected:—-Messrs I Ashworth, Weaver, Bodkin, Schaumauu, ! Carroll and Marslin. Several members I declined nominations. x Correspondence was read from the j Under-secretary for Lands re the re- ' solution passed by the Alexandra branch ;in support of the application by a i syndicate for land between Alexandra ! aud Clyde. Messrs P. W. Payne aud W. Norton j (both of Dnnedin) wrote in reference to : their respective inventions for lifting I water for irrigation purposes. A local resident "wrote suggesting a ' more elaborate title for the league, but I nothing eventuated. Considerable discussion ensued ou the subdivision of the different runs. The Moutere block was considered suitable for subdivision into three rims, whilst that of Earnscleugli at the south end was capable of being cut up into ten blocks.
