Any friendship that is worth the name is not in the least a matter of reason or choice, but rather of magnetism and temperament.

The talent for making friends, or for discovering them, is a specific and distinctive one, and is perhaps the result of a combination of happy qualities; yet in any perfect friendship there is always the sense of the unexpected, the miraculous.

They alone love God who take a personal interest in those whom they would benefit, who reinforce their failing lives, not with bread alone, but with sympathy and affection, with faith and courage, with joy and gladness.
