He struggled on, and whs horrified to find that not only was he lost, wet through, and almost perishiug with coin", but also that lie was being puisued by a pack of dingoes, evidently watching for an opportunity to attack him Finally they w-ire piessing so closely in aiound him tint he was forced to take shelter in a tu;e. The wind by this time had increased to a hurricane, with fierce driving rain i-qu.ills, and it was with the grettest difiicul y that he was able to hold on to the tree, lie expected every minute th.i» it. would he blown uui by the roots or snaope i off by the force of the wind, as dozens of other trees were in the vicinity. He was forced to remain all Sui day in the tree with the dingoes howling below. Towards daylight the dingoes made off, «nd a little later Pallier fell from the nee and must have laid on the grouud stunned for some considerable time. All day he wandered through the scrub with no sigu of any toad or hibitation. Even in broad daylight his enemies of the previous the dingoes, were still following his tracks, but did not approach too closely until nightfall. On the third night the wind abated and the rain ceased, and he heard the joyful sound of the ocean beating on the rocks. He immediately commenced a painful struggle to reach the top of the mountain, but his strength was so exhausted through being without food for so loDg that he almost despaired. Still, he struggled on, his boots were worn completely off ins feet, and by daylight he was within hail of civilisation. When the mails left he was in a low condition, but there were hopes of his recovery.
