Mining News.

There was no wash-up from the Sandy Poiut dredge last week, the time being occupied in uhauging top tumbler plates and effecting other necessary repairs. The Eureka started operations at the end of last week after having been shifted further up the river. The Olrig is working a small corner alongside the tailings to complete the workiug of the present block so that the dredge ueed not come back to it again. This will occupy about another fortnight, when the dredge will again resume operations on the rich run that was struck couple of weeks ago. The Tinkers Mining Company has declare! a dividend of lid i>er share. This is the second dividend declared iuside of two months, an I the prospects of t'le company are very promising. Shares have been selling lately at satisfactory prices. Mr John Werner has recently returned from South America, where he was engaged in managing miniug ventures for different companies. Mr Werner speaks in glowing terms of the mining possibilities of that country, but owing to unnecessarily high office expenses the capital of the respective coiupauies was frittered away iu this direction instead of being devotetl to tlte development of the mining properties. T.ie same remark applies to the dredging concerns in Tierra del Fuego, where a number of dredgeraen from New Zealand were Employed and who had considerable difficulty in extracting their wages from their employers. Some of the men afterwards worked the dredges on tribute aud made ex jptionally good wages, proving that the ground was payable when worked iu a systematic maimer. Mr Werner was stationed in Patagonia, aud regards that portiou of America as containing vast scope for the further development of her natural resources.
