Taking the Beating Badly.
Surely it is high time that the memheis of 4 the Opposition either dropped for ever their contemptible Inbit of insinuating charges of corruption against the Liberals, or attempted t<> support them by some definite evidence. It is simply monstrous that, merely because the Liberals are strong enough to carry an electoiate against all Mi- Massey's efforts, they should be subjected to such disgraceful treatment. Mr Massey his had a good deal to say about, the Government's method ot conducting elections in the past, bu' we observe that his righteous indignation against Government " interference " during elections did not prevent him from going down to. Rangitikei and playing an extiemely active part in the campaign. We have long since
c* sed to expect consistency from the Opposition, but from a man of Mr M ssey's standing and reputation we have a right te demand something better than the deplorable exhibi'.io > that he has provided as a finale to the Rangitikei election —Auckland Star.
