Blacks Debating Society.
The last meeting of the session was held on Tuesday evening, the president in the chair, but owing to weather conditions the attendance was rather small. After business had been disposed of an important speech competition was held, the president and secretary acting as judges. Two prizes were given, a first and a booby, bot'i being secured by ladies. After the chairman had presented the prizes a varied programme of instrumental items, etc, was given by members, the following contributing : Mrs Murphy, Misses Murp ly, Dallas, Wallace, Messrs Bourke, Jones, Dallas, Beauinout and Blyth. After a very enjo3 r able supper had been dispensed, au impromptu debate was held on the subject, " Which has the better life, the racehorse or the ploughhorse?" a fur number taking part, the result favoring the plough horse. Votes of thanks were passed to the performers aud those who assisted with the supper.
It was decided that the committee meet next week to wind-up business and fix the date of opening for next winter. A vote of thanks was passed to the chairman, and a very eujoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
