Subdivision of Pastoral Runs.

REPORT OF COMMISSIONERS. The roport of the Otago Run Classification Commissioners appointed to report on the i uns in Otago district, the licenses of which will terminate in March, 1910, have been published. The following relate to the runs in this dis'iict : Runs 261 a, b, c, d, and E, and sections 8 and 9, block IV, Tiger Hill survey district (Ida Valley Station), Vincent and Maniototo Counties; 72,296 acres; representatives of late Sir Francis Dillon Bell.—We recommend that this area be not let again as a pastoral run, but that it be subdivided for closer settlement into small grazing runs (from seven to ten such small grazing runs). Runs 223, 223 a, b, and d, and 238 i (Matakanui Station), Vincent County ; 53,97$ acies; William Laidlaw and David Crawford.— We recommend that this area be not let again as a pastoral run, but that it be subdivided and offered as small grazing runs in (say) five or six subdivisions—the latter number if an agreement respecting exchange of freehold be not arrived at with Messrs Laidlaw and Crawford. We recommend that certain small areas be granted to previous applicants and others whose houses, either adjoining or within the run, necessitate a larger living area. We recommend that an approximate area of 160 acres, now fenced in as one of the shearing piddocks, be granted to Messrs Laidlaw and Crawford at a capital value of 30s per acre. We think that the proposal of the Land Purchase Board to acquire the freehold of 1117 acres at £3 per acre, aud grant a lease of 15,800 acres in exchange should not be assented to for the reasons set out. "We recommend, however, that an area of 10,000 acres be leased to Messrs Laidlaw and Crawford as an equivalent tor freehold offered by them, the capital value of the area proposed to be leased having been fixed at 7s 6d per acre, equal to a rental of 3|d per acre per annum.
