Teviot News.

(Own Correspondknt.) On the evening of Thursday last the children atteoding the Presbyterian Sunday School gave a very interesting entertainment in the hall.' It took the form of an operatta entitled " Little Folks at Play," and the capital manner in which the children rendered the piece reflected great credit on their teacher (Miss Smith) and those ladies who assisted her. j The local cricket club held its first match on Saturday, when it met and defeated the Dunrobio Olub by 14 runs. No sensational scoring 'was' done on either side, the scores registered being 67 and 53. for the home team D. Mitchell was responsible for 25 runs and A. Orr for 18. During the afternoon light refreshments were handed round. The following comprise the executive of the club : President, Dr Gilmour; secretary, Mr J. Cormack; captain, Mr D. Mitchell; deputy captain, Mr J. Watt; committee—Messrs Orr, Strachan, Stuart, M'Leod and Wbeian and officers; match committee—Messrs Mitchell, Orr and Cormack. A large number of members have already been enrolled and the season promises to. be one of much enthusiasm and vigor. Large quantities of strawberries and cherries have been going from this district into the Dunedin market, and prices realised have been very satisfactory. The season has been unusually short this year owing no doubt to the great heat that has been experienced during the past few weeks and unless visited by heavy rains growers do pot expect the berries will last much over this week. The election over, matters here have reverted to their former peaoefulness. Those who have won have ceased their jubilations and their less fortunate brethern have accepted their defeat as a matter of course. It is reported that the Opposition here, to commemorate their victory, intend banqueting Mr Scott, and Messrs Massey and Allen will be invited to be present.
