Vincent County Council.

ENGINEER'S REPORT. The following report, unavoidably held over from our last issue, by the county engineer was presented at last mooting of the council : Since last meeting the following matters have received my attention : Manuherikia Riding.—Repiirs have been effected to the German Hill.road, ind plunks have been placed across the Pool bur o Creek at Ga van's. Repairs have been effected to the washout near the Poolburn crossing, and concrete pipe culverts inserted where necessary. General repiirs have been effected to the roads in and about Ida Valley. Ophir Water Supply.—Surveys have been made, and plana and specifications prepared, and alternative tenders invited returnable yesterday (24th), but no tenders have come to hand Manuherikia Footbridge.—At Omakiu railway rails have been purchased aud pointed, and are now on the site, and a start will be made driving tbem on Thursday. Matakanui Riding.—A concrete pipe culvert has been put in at the low lying portion of the road close to the Omakau hotel, and also the low lyiog portion of the road opposite Micdondds General repairs have also been effected to the various roads within this riding.

White's road.-r-The tender of C. White has been accepted for metalling this road. The coutract price is below my estimate for the work and land fund is now available far the work.

Dunstan Riding.—Urgent necessary repairs have been effected to the Galloway road in the vicinity of the Manorburn crossing. This road from the combine! railway and traffic bridge towards the Manorburn crossing for a distance of about a mile requires regrading, as it is very unsatisfactory in its present state, and the traffic is increasing on this road. Repairs have been effected to the Little Valley road.

The tender of H. Tohill has been accepted for metalling 12 chains of the Clyde-Alexandra Ophir road, and repairs have been effected to other portions of the road. Chatto Greek—Moutere road.—Repairs have been effected to this road, and a footbridge placed over the creek in the vicinity cf Moutere homestead. Clyde Water Supply.—l have had the race cleaned out from the intake to the reservoir, also' the settling unks. I recommend that a trial survey be made and estimates prepared of the coat of piping the water from the intake to the reservoir.

Earnscleugh Riding.—Repairs have been effectei to the Fraser river crossing, and to various other roads within the riding. Government Grants.—Authority has been received (in reply to my request) to expend the grant of £2OO on the Alexandra-Dry Gully road, and £IOO on the Alexandia-Earnscleugh road. Plans and specifications will be prepared for approval at au early date, as the work is urgent on account of the heavy traffic on the roads in question. . Lindis Riding.—Authority has been received to* spend the giant of £350 on the Olyde-Cromweli road. The road has been widened at Rocky Point, and plans and specifications are now being prepared for the proposed footbridge over the Clutha river at Daadman's Point.

A netted stone goblin has been constructed in the Lindis river bed to divert the overflows into its proper channel. Repairs have also been effected to the Upper Lindis road and crossing. The grader is now at work at Tarras. Since ic started work 1387 chains of road' has been graded at an approximate cost of 2s per chaiu. Low burn Punt.—The timber has arrived for re-decking the punt. On examination I fouud the beams sup porting the decking decayed, so I ordered new Oregon pine beams, and they have arrived. Hawea Riding.—Tenders have been invited, returnable yesterday . (24th inst), for metalling 24 chains of the Hawea Flat road at Hospital Creek, but no tenders have been received. Hawea Bridge.—Repairs have been completed to this bridge. Clutha Riding.—Repairs hive been effected to the Pisa-Wanaka road where required. Plans and specifications are now being prepared for the proposed traffic bridge at Luggate Creek, an estimate of which is before you to-day. Kirtleburn taack over the hill to Cardrona has been repaired. Carrick Riding.—Authority has been received for the expendinre of the Government grauts iu connection I with the re-cecking of the Bannockj burn bridge. I have received quota- ; tions of hard wood suitable for decking, viz , jarrab, 21s, f o.b. at Dunedin, and tahowwood 30s in yard, Dunedin, per | 100 super feet. Nevis loads.—Mr Williamson reports that the roads are all in fair order in this district. As I will be visiting the Nevis shortly, I would like authority to cirry out wlutever works I may doom necessary when thoio.
