Borough Council.

A special meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Monday evening last. Present :—Crs Spencer (chair), Davis, M'Knighr, Bowler, M'lntosh, Ryan and Gregg. Moved by Or M'lntosh, seconded by Or Bowler —That it be resolved by way of special resolution to operate as a special order that the draft by-law now before the council, regulating matters in regard to heavy traffic within the Borough of Alexandra, be adopted and made as a by-law to be known as " Bylaw No 3, heavy traffic by-law," and further, that a special meeting be held on Monday, sth February, 1906, at 8 p.m, for the purpose of confirming the said special order, and that the same be duly advertised in accordance with the law. —Carried. Ordinary Meeting. The ordinary monthly meeting was held immediately afterwards, the same councillors in attendance. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved. The inward correspondence .was read and received as follows : Letter from J. Stark and Mrs Cameron re water services.

Resolved —That Mr Stark's application be granted, and that Mrs Cameron's application be left to the tcwn clerk to report at next meeting. Letter from William Turner re overflow of race. Resolved—That the matter be left in the hands of the works committee with power to act. Letter from Department of Labor re special meeting for declaration of half-holiday. Cr Gregg moved, Cr Davis seconded —That a special meeting be held on Monday, 15 fch January, 1906, for the purpose of dealing with the date of the half-holiday.—Carried. Letter from J. Rivers.—Received. The following accounts were passed for payment : Interest, £l3B 19s lid; J. Young, £22 10s; J. D. Thomson, 10s 2d; Daily Times £1 10s ; O. C. Foundry, £6 3s 5d ; A. &T. Burt, £3 10s Id ; Post office box, £1 ; J. Gartley, £7 ; W. Holt, £2 10s ; A, & T. Burt, £214 3s 5d ; R. Atkins, £8 15s 4d ; Alexandra Herald, £8 ; G. Hannay, £ls ; W. S. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
