Wedding Bells.
[Contributed.] On Wednesday last, 16th inst., a wedding of more than usual interest was celebrated at Matakanui, when Miss Dolly Sutherland (second daughter of Mr A. Sutherland, of Matakanui) and Mr George Alexander (second son of Mrs Alexander, of Lauder) were united in the bonds of holy matrimony. The wedding took place at the residence of Mr Will Laidlaw, Matakanui, where the bride had for the past twelve years been in service. A large number of guests were present from all parts of the district to see the nuptial knot tied and wish the contracting parties long life and happiness, in their new sphere. The bride, dressed in white silk, trimmed with chiffon and lace, and wearing a lovely veil and wreath and carrying a bouquet, looked handsome. Her two bridesmaids looked exquisitively; Miss Sutherland being dressed in a lovely white silk, trimmed with lace; and Miss Ina Sutherland in a white silk trimmed with insertion. Mr Wm. Alexander (brother of the brigegroom) acted as best man, and Mr W. Sutherland was groomsman. The wedding breakfast was held in the large dining room, and all present sat down to partake of the many good things that adorned the table. The usual toasts on such an occasion were proposed and duly honored. In the evening a social was held in the Matakanui Hall, and was attended by over 150 people; the grand march being led off by the newly - wedded couple. Dancing was kept going merrily, and one of the most enjoyable and successful functions of its kind held in this district terminated with the singing of " Auld Lang Syne '; cheers being given for the happy couple and also for Mr and Mrs Laidlaw. The presents were both numerous and costly.
