Tea Meeting.

A very enjoyable and successful concert and tea-meeting was held in the Earnscleugh schoolroom on Wednesday evening, 14th inst. The Presbyterian Church choir was present and supplied a number of musical items, including several solos by Messis Brown, Short, and Oalder, and a duet by Miss Frater and Mr Oalder, all of which were given with great spirit and effect, and were heartily applauded. Mr Egginton was present with his graphophone, and rendered yeoman service with his splendid instrument; whilst Miss Paul favored the audience with an excellent recitation. Miss Mary Fraser and Miss Nieper presided at the piano and played with their usual skill.

At the opening of the entertainment the Rev J Mackie, who presided, gave a short address, and interspersed humorous remarks throughout the course of the programme: The ladies during an interval handed round tea and a wealth and variety of nice things, wliich reflected great credit both on their culinary accomplishments and their generosity of, heart, for which, at the instance of the chairman, they were accorded, at the close of the gathering, enthusiastic thanks. Mr Iversen and Mr Thomas Hawley —the one for the use of his piano, the other for his kindness in driving the choir to the Earnscleugh school-room and back—.were cheered in the heartiest manner, a like compliment being paid to the other entertainers, the chairman not being forgotten, Mr and Mrs John Kelman, the chairman pointed out, deserved special acknowledgement for the trouble they had taken in making the various arrangements for the pleasant social evening, and the audience made it plain by their applause that they were fully alive to the fact. We understand that another concert and tea-meeting, on a suitable moonlight evening, at no distant date will be very acceptable to the Earnscleugh people, and a full house may be looked for.
