Alexandra Jockey Club.

The adjourned annual meeting of the Alexandra Jockey Club was held at the Caledonian Hotel on Tuesday evening, when there was a good attendance. The president (Sir J. D. Buchanan) occupied the chair. The balance-sheet, duly audited, was adopted. The statement showed a credit balance at bank of .£95 3s 3d, with nominations still owing amounting to £l4 10s, making a total credit balance of £lO9 13s 3d. The president pointed out that a profit of over £3B was made on last year's race-meeting. The programme remains the same as last year's, with the following exceptions :—Distance or Alexandra Handicap reduced from 1| mile to one mile; Farewell Handicap to he open to all horses, nominations to close on night of general entry, distance reduced to four furlongs, A good deal of correspondence of a formal nature was dealt with.

Resolved—That dues to the Raising Conference £l, and delegate's expenses £1 2s 6d, to the Dunedin Jockey Club, be paid. On the motion of Mr Laidlaw, seconded by Mr Bringans, it was resolved that the sum of £3 15s lid be paid to the Maniototo Jockey Club, being contribution towards the expenses incurred in connection with the drafting of bye-laws to prevent cash fielders from plying their calling on the racecourse.

The question of engaging a totalisator for the next race-meeting was left in the hands of the president and secretory to deal with. A form of debenture which it is proposed to issue, to raise funds for fencing the reserve and erecting buildings, was submitted and approved. It was decided that 50 £5 debentures be issued, carrying interest at the rate of 7| per cent, per annum. A good deal of discussion tben took place re fencing and improving the reserve, and also as to the erection of buildings. Eventually; the following resolutions were carried : —That the; and secretary arrange for the surveying of the facing track; that the secretary ascer tain the dimension* of the Naseby, Cromwell, and Matakanui" grandstands, and that an estimate of the cost of a suitable stand be obtained; and that tenders be invited for the supply of fencing material. It was also resolved that a quantity of meadow-grass and clover seed, sufficient to sow about eight acres, be obtained from Nimmo and Blair.

The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
