MINING NEWS.

The rain last Saturday caused a a'ight rise in the river, but subsequent frosts caused it to recede again. The height last evening was about 3ft lOin above "normal" with an upward tendency. The weather is now mild. A wire received last night stated that -?in was falling at the Lakes. The Manuherikia dredge still keeps ca good wash. The drift in the gorge is, however, heavy. The work of lengthening the ladder of the Monte Christo dredge hiviDg been completed, dredging was resumed hat Saturday morning. The secretary of the StaffordWaimea Dredging Company informs OS that the re-erection of the company's new dredge is proceeding satisfactorily under the able supervision of llr John Gordon. The framing is all in position, and caulking of the hull is proceeding. The machinery is all on the ground. It is expected that the Chicago dtedge will be able to resume work to-day (Thuisday) The Earnscleugh No 1 and No 2 diedges are working steadily. The machinery of the Moa No 1 dredge is being dismantled and taken ashore. The hull of the dredge (which has been out of commission for some time) is partly silted up. The Moa dredge is working in midatream immediately above the Alexandra bridge.

STAFFORD-WAIMEA GOLD DREDGING COMPANY. The adjourned annual meeting of ifaarebolders in the above company was held in the company's registered office, Alexandra, on Friday evening; There were 21 shareholders in attendance, and in the unavoidable absence of the chairman of directors, Mr G. - Spencer occupied the chair. In moving the adoption of the balance sheet and report (which has already appeared in these columns), the chairman said that the position of the company was already known to shareholders, as this was fully set forth in the directors' report and in the accompanying balancefsheet. If, however, desired any fuller Jpexmatioa, he would be happy to answer any questions that might be asked. The motion was seconded by Mr K. Gunion, and carried unanimiously. The retiring directors (Messrs G. Spencer and S. J. Luke) were reelected, and the directors' remuneration was fixed at the same figure as last year. Mr J. G. Closs was re-elected auditor at the same remuneration as last year Several questions were then asked by shareholders, principally with regard to the new dredge, and were answered by the chairman to the satisfaction of the meeting. an extraordinary feneral meeting of the company was eld, when the following resolution amending the Articles of Association was carried:— V That the Company's Articles of Associ- • ' afcion be amended by altering the Regulations of 'Table A' to the %*& «Companies Act, 1882,' as per the - proposed Articles now deposited in the *-\ . Company's Office and approved of by the Board of Directors." The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairmrn.
