Borough Council.

The ordinary meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held on Monday evening last, when there were present —Ors Spencer (deputy-mayor), Appleton, Laidlaw, Ryan, M'Math, Anderson, and Buchanan.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Inward correspondence was read as follows:

From the Clerk Central Otago Hospitals Board re quarterly contribution.

From Mr R. Hay, engineer, re contracts.

The inward correspondence was received and the outward approved. It was resolved that the matter of openj ingthe streefc leading to the Alexandra coal-pit be left in the hands of the works committee with power to act. Resolved—That the sum of £ls be paid to the Central Otago Hospitals Board, on account of quarterly contribution, as requested. On the motion of Cr Ryan, seconded by| Cr Buchanan, it wa9 resolved that the engineer be instructed to see that Messrs A and T Burt's contract is carried out according to specifications, and that he be notified that pipes are being covered before testing, as provided by terms of the contract.

On the motion of Cr Laidlaw, seconded by Cr Appleton, it was resolved that permission be granted to Mr Lett to place winches and backers on the road near Craig's stables, provided that room be left for traffic, and that all responsibility be taken by Mr Lett, the road to be left in good repair, and the place to be lighted at night. ,

The statement of balances was read as follows:—Dr General Account, £892 Os lOd; fir Interest Account, £305 2s 8d; ; Cr Charities Account, £9B 4s, Or Contractors' Deposits Account, £55 17s; Cr Cemetery Account, £47 Is 2d; Gr Library Account, £9 5s Id ; total debit balance, £376 8s lid.

Accounts amounting to £l6 2s 6d were passed for payment.

The Council then rose.
