Motueka 27 March 1847 Tamihana Ngapiko's statement when he was close to death. He spoke to me about the lands that the Pakeha wish to buy. Tamihana said on the day on which his eyes closed [in death] that I, Te Herewini Ngapiko, should give to McLean the two hundred acres. The Pakeha had said to Tamihana that [he?] should receive two hundred. Tamihana said he would not agree to that. [But] if the Governor had given the two hundred, he would have taken it for his well-being. Now I am the only one to decide over these lands, because Ngapiko, Tamihana, has died.
