26 August 1852 Go off, my letter, to the Governor. Think about the talk you and I had. This letter is about Hurinui, about the land of my ancestor, Hinituhi. The descendants grew up, and when I turned around, well they vanished, rushed off to Port Nicholson. I did my best to persuade them to come back to produce food for us and the Pakeha. When [they?] heard that the Pakeha had gone inland, then [they?] came back to pick a quarrel. This is my message of sympathy to you and the Pakeha. It is my place that I am happy to give to you, for you to go on to, at Rangi[?illegible], Anaero, Waiau, Mimi, Whakarewa, and Pukearuhe, so you are close to me and my children. When the land is paid for and you obtain it, the land should be reserved. That's all I have to say. This letter is from me, from Taonui To the Governor Auckland
26 Akuhata 1852 Haere ra, taku pukapuka, ki a Kawana. Me whakaaro mai koe ki a taua korero. Mo Hurinui tenei pukapuka, mo te kainga o taku tupuna o Hinituhi. Heoi ano taku korero. Naku tenei pukapuka, na Taonui Ki a Kawana Akarana
