Wellington July 28 1846 Friend Mclean, greetings. This is to let you know Te Rauparaha has been arrested by the Governor. There were six of them. This will please Europeans and sadden the Maori. Friend the Maori people will disappear as the result of his wrong going. However you have exhorted the people of your place of residence that this will be the way their lands will be treated. Friend, listen to what is happening here. The evil that is being done will result in death. My son do be strong in teaching your Maori people to live peacefully, lest they say it is the fault of the pakeha whereas it is the fault of the Maori. Everything depends entirely on you. Let me tell you it was through me that Te Rauparaha and hi young kinsmen were arrested. I was responsible for the arrest of a murderer. You will thus see for yourself. Enough. Friend I shall come there after the trouble is over to live as your friend if you so wish. You can build a house for me or I can build it myself. We can decide when we meet to consider these matters. From your true friend Wiremu Tako To Mclean Tehenui, New Plymouth July 28 1846 Trans. M.R. Jones
