Cambridge 20th June /72 My dear Mr. McLean, I arrived here last night and find that I must push on to Auckland in order to catch the Mail on the 13th I have had a most pleasant trip - Mair took me to Roto Mahana by canoe from Tarawera and we saw all the wonders, It is certainly the most glorious place in the Island. I should have liked to have spent a month there. My guide from Waotu lost his way and consequently I had a day less at the Lakes than I expected Mair sent Maunsell with me, an excellent fellow and first rate guide. We came down by Te Whetu and Tirau and reached here last night. The old horse carried me very well and has come back in very good condition - I heard all sorts of interesting particulars about Te Kooti from the Waotu natives who seem to have a profound veneration for him - I hear that there is to be a great Mutiny at Alexandra and regret very much that I can't be there to see it - I found Mair an extremely pleasant fellow and most hospitable. I have to thank you for the most pleasant trip I have had in New Zealand. I regret that I am unable to do so in person and bid you good bye before my departure for England. I wish you all manner of good fortune and remain Yrs. very truly Walter Lorna Campbell
