Protectors Office, Auckland, June 21,/44, Sir, I have the honor to request that you will proceed with Mr. Taylor to the Ngatipaoa Tribe and inform them that that Gentleman is about commencing operations in the way of Mining, on the Island of Pakahu as however some of the Natives have complained that the purchase of that Island was not complete you may inform them that your object is to render them every assistance you can in order to settle the question, that Mr. Taylor may not be molested in his work. You are already in possession of His Excellencys notes upon this subject and will confine yourself in all your transactions conformably thereto. In the event of your not being able to complete to your satisfaction the object of your visit you may refer the Natives to me, when I may be able to complete it.
