New Plymouth March 9, 1857. My dear Sir, There is nothing new in reference to the proposed sale of Ikamoana. I am keeping away from Katatore until his views on that subject are better known. He and Wiremu Kingi arrived at the Ninia this morning and may be in Town any day this week. The approaching work of dragging land into the sea will incur some necessary expenses in the way of small presents and occasional supplies of food, will you therefore send me authority for a limited amount, say £50, the expenditure of which to be accounted for in any way you please. Haeana, of the Ninia, is very anxious to be made an Assessor and asked me to make known his wish to you. A letter from you, touching upon his visit to the Kaipakopako, mentioned in my letter to you of the 6th. ultimo, will go a great way to satisfy him and his immediate friends, whose assistance in any future land negotiation will be of importance. Faithfully yours, H. Halse. To:- McLean Esq.
