Turanganui 21st. February 1869. Sir, I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 16th. inst., enclosing translation of letter from Richmond, of Nuhaka, relative to an intended descent of the Hau Haus on Opotiki, Te Wairoa, or this place. In reply I beg to state that I received the same information from Karepa, on the afternoon of the 8th. inst., and on the following day I communicated that information to the Government. I also wrote to the Resident Magistrate at Opotiki, a letter (copy of which I enclose), but unfortunately owing to the flooded state of the Rivers, and the absence of any vessel, I was unable to send it until the morning of the 17th. inst. I have the honor to be Your most obedient servant (Signed) W.S. Atkinson Resident Magistrate. To:- His Honor The Superintendent Napier.
