Napier 30th November, 1868 Dear Lambert, Mr. McLean is so busy with important duties he has asked me to write and let you know what is being done at Poverty Bay, since the news of the successful attack by our friendlies nothing has been done Westrup has been waiting for a small European reinforcement as also the arrival of the Wairoa contingent. On the 27th Inst. a party of mounted Hau Haus made a dash at Pah Tutahi and succeeded in carrying off eight kegs of ammunition. Tanner has volunteered with his men and will leave tonight with about 60 ten having gone in the Ahuriri on Saturday, the last news from Poverty Bay is that communication has been established with the front, and the Native force in position is in excellent spirits and quite sanguine of success, in the skirmish which took place when the ammunition was taken there were two Hau Haus killed but none of our men were injured, there is great excitement here caused by Tanners men volunteering any amount of men would have gladly gone but more were not required. I remain, Yours truly, Edward L. Green
