30th Septr 1864 Glenorchy My dear Donald I am thankful to tell you that Kate is now beginning to come round again. I got very much afraid of her but I think she will be all right in a few days and able to go about again. Poor thing she thought she was going herself but God has ordered it otherwise which is a great blessing to me for if she went I would be very miserable in this world altho I am among my own near and dear relations still it would be a sad loss for me as she is a very good and prudent woman and full of interest in one and all of us as well as me. Douglas is one of her warmest attachments. When she thought she was going the other night she spoke so kindly of him among other things. Her pulse was stoped for some time and I thought for a time it was all over but still I had hope. Her complent is a very dangerous one and may carry her off in very short notice. Kate's coming up has done her a great deal of good for they understand each other so well. I send you a few lines inclosed for dear little Douglas as I promised to write him regular. Please to forward it with your own. It is likely I will be hearing from him myself by next mail. We had a fine shower of rain and the grass is coming up nicely now. We will soon have plenty of feed. My cows are beginning to gave some milch now. My dear brother I do intreat of you to try and come up in land as much as you can for it will do you a great deal of good. When you came up this time you were looking very old and not at all so well. Depend upon trips in the country will do you good for you were so much accustomed to that all your life that it is almost second nature for you to have a journey now and then. I went down on Monday morning to see you but you were off. If the boy Harrie has paid you 22/ for ewe one pound of it is your own in place of the pound I should have gaven you up here that I did not send you that I got from John.
