Napier 15th June 1869 Dear Mr. McLean After I had posted my letter yesterday Carlyon met me and asked if I had made any remarks for you relative to Henry Russell making use of the telegraph line on all occasions, if you remember he telegraphed to me supposing I was in command at Napier and inform me that he had been authorized by Government to receive all information direct from the Militia Office. I cannot find this telegram now. You said you intended to have my name placed on the Commission of the Peace, this would be a good opportunity as poor old Maltby who was a justice died yesterday. I am not well enough this morning to attempt going on board the Steamer to see the Governor. I have narrowly escaped a serious illness, interior inflamation brought on by a severe cold.
