Wellington 24th My dear Donnald I believe Robert has written to Douglas with regard to his coming in to the office. There is a good opening just now and you know who is anxious to have it. Robert says if you are still thinking of the law for Douglas he would much prefure having him to any body and will take pains to make a good man of business of him. I had no idea he was 21 years of age till his grandfather told me the other day. It will give me great pleasure to see him established in the office just as he has come of age. I am fretting a good deal about our dear Alec. It seems to me as if so little was done for him and I blame myself much for leaving him to the care of any one at nights. I sent for Dr Grace for it has been pressing so much upon my mind and I feel more comfortable since. I have just written to Mrs Conway and told her how thankful I am that her little boy is named after him. Robert has gone to Canterbury today. His brother has sold Snowdown Station for 14000. Miss McLean is still with Annabella. She is quite a little sun shine to us both. 2nd. Did you give the little text book to Mr Anderson? It has on the drawingroom table at Mr Kinrosses. I hope they will not charge you for my ticket for I paid Mr Russledge on board. Mrs Park was obliged to you for giving Edsie hers. I wish you would send Mr Sydie , the minister, a case of good port wine with my compliments. I believe that [crossed out] Mr Kenedy has got good wine. Mr Sydie was most kind and Robert says I ought to do it. With my love to Douglas, the Captain and yourself. I am your aff. Kate H. Don't keep my letter about - burn it [Note on transcription] Rev Dr David Sidey who was inducted at St Paul's, Napier in Feb 1872
