My dear Col. Browne, I thank you most sincerely for the very handsome letter you have sent me, and the kind present accompanying it, which I shall always preserve as an heirloom, and think of the days I have spent under your administration in New Zealand thro' good and evil report with the feeling that I have invariably had the good fortune of enjoying your confidence and sincere friendship.
