Turanganui December 4th. 1868. My dear McLean, Mr. Richmond is here. We have arranged that Colonel Whitmore lands at the Wairoa instead of coming on here, which of course pleases me considerably. The ''Ahuriri'' goes on from this to stop the Sturt and Lady Bird on the way to land them (the men) at any place convenient to Wairoa if the sea is too high to land them by the river. Ngatiporou have gone on and are now up with the enemy, but the Napier contingent has returned in consequence of some disagreement with the other Tribe. Our foes have lost over 50 men in the two last engagements and there is now every probability of Te Kooti's capture as it is certain he has to be carried on a litter. Yours very sincerely, Chas. Westrup. Donald McLean Esqr. Napier.
